Favourite part of CHC: The calm environment and nice people.
Biggest challenge of moving to CHC: Probably just the transition really, because it’s so different.
Leo P.
Leo has had an ongoing internship at the Lake Veterinary Hospital Belmont lasting over two years. He has one of the longest running internships within the school, which we thought deserved some acknowledgement. We interviewed him about his LTI and what knowledge and skills he has learnt through it.
Q & A:
What do you help with at the vets?
I’m kind of all over the place really. I’ve helped out in the office doing stock, I’ve helped out in the surgery monitoring the animals, and other tasks such as welcoming in customers and get them signed up. I’ve helped with holding the animals during procedures. I’ve also helped out in the office and front desk but I’m mainly in the back helping with pre and post surgery care and cleaning. I clean the surgery equipment and towels, lots of towels.
What animals are your favorite to work with?
Cats. (He did not elaborate)
What is the most complicated thing you’ve learnt through your LTI?
It's all really complex but I would say the lab is my biggest obstacle. There’s so many little things and if you don't spin this for the certain amount of time you can make a mistake. It's easy to make a mistake because theres so many steps, however you get used to it and get quicker with it. It's always fun. Something I’m still learning is the dry urine slides for the microscope. I can do the wet slides easily, but the dry slides are much more complicated so I am still learning.
How will you continue your education of veterinary medicine once leaving school?
Due to me finishing my Certificate II animal care at Glendale TAFE which means I’m now qualified to do a Certificate IV Veterinary Course at Curry Curry, which takes about a year and a half. After that I’ll hopefully get a job as a veterinary nurse. I’m hoping Lake Veterinary Hospital Belmont will take me under their wing. If not, I now have practical experience that I can use to work in other places.
What has been the most difficult part of your internship?
I want to say the beginning. The first step to get out there, the first day when you don't know anything it's very nerve racking. But you keep going and gain confidence, you learn stuff and you realize that you’re helpful and you enjoy being there. I wake up now and say “Yay! LTI day” instead of worrying.
What is your favorite part of the internship?
The animals! I love the animals they're so cute. But also knowing that what you're doing is helping them. Sometimes it’s a bit of tough love but you know it'll be worth it in the end.
Anything else you’d like to add?
I’d like to give a big thank you to the Lake Veterinary Hospital Belmont
for taking me in and dealing with me. Love you guys xoxo gossip girl 💛
On the friday of week 5, CHC was visited by the Liverpool Boy's High Big Picture class. We welcomed them into our advisories and talked with them about their projects for the term and their interests.
To celebrate their visit we held a free barbeque, where both CHC and Liverpool students could have donuts, sausages and soft drinks absolutely free of charge!
During town hall the Liverpool boys thanked us for our hospitality and offered for us to visit their school in return, which Quinn seemed excited about. So look out for a possible future excursion!
CHC's learning support teacher Antonia, former Japanese teacher, and students visited the Japanese exchange students at NHS. Students had the oppurtunity to speak Japanese with the visiting school and practice introducing themselves in the language, and vise versa with the Japanese students practicing their English. Below is Alliss from Advisory Six's journal on her experience.

Word of the week!
Shenaniganery
(shen-AN-i-gan-erry)
Ah, shenaniganery, the most popular pass-time here at Cook’s Hill Campus, the act of doing shenanigans, causing incidents of trickery and general mischief, to act in a dastardly and dubious way, to be silly in a way such that causes mayhem. In short, it's the act of being a silly goober.
Backpfeifengesicht (German)
(Bak-fai-fen-ge-sicht)
Backpfeifengesicht is a wonderful descriptor, a word usable in so many circumstances, a word which is applicable to so many people, a word we should all be using. Backpfeifengesicht means a face in great need of a slap, someone who’s face is so very punchable.
Pet of the week!
This is Luna!!! She's a princess with a love for her tower and watching television.
