In this course we will explore modern world history, beginning with the Industrial Revolution and into contemporary society. Major eras to be studied include: industrialization, imperialism, World Wars I & II, the Cold War, and modern global issues. Students will participate in a variety of activities to enhance their critical thinking, collaborative, inquiry, communication, and literacy capabilities. This class also includes a geography component, with students working on mapping skills and becoming more familiar with African, European, and Asian physical & political geographical features.

Grading Policies
For assessments, there will not be a penalty for late work that is turned in before the end of a semester.
For classwork/homework, there will be a 10% deduction for late work.
Corrections, Retakes, & Revisions: Opportunity will be given to correct or re-do any summative assessment to allow students to show their highest level of mastery.
Others Notes on Grading Policies:
Participation and collaboration will not be connected to your academic grade. However, it will be assessed and commented on in your semester report card comments. You will be high school students come next fall and at this stage in your academic career, you are expected to take greater responsibility for your actions and understand how they affect you AND others. Staying on task and being actively involved in class will greatly improve your understanding of the world and ability to acquire new skills. Staying on task, being prepared for class, being proactive, cooperating with classmates, helping each other, and contributing to a positive learning environment/community are attributes we should all strive toward.
While the Homework & Classwork element does not compose a major chunk of your class grade, completing homework and work that is assigned is essential to your success in this class and performing well on your assessments. Students will also be assigned Exit Tickets at the end of class on a consistent basis to assess their learning of the lesson objectives and to help them reflect upon their learning. Homework and class assignments will be given credit based on completeness and feedback will be given for areas of improvement.
