This introductory level music class begins the year by learning about rhythm through percussion instruments. Students perform and compose their own original percussion pieces and then continue to improve their music literacy through learning wind instruments. Students first learn the basics of how to play the instrument then learn to perform together as an ensemble. Students then finish out the year by learning about movement through music. In this unit we explore various activities such as body percussion and dance. A major component of this course is singing choral music each class, in addition to singing with the CDS choir and other music classes. This choir performs at concerts and festivals throughout the year.

CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS
TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE: All students are required to attend all classes and be on time.
KNOW YOUR SURROUNDINGS: Be respectful and mindful of your peers and the instruments. Do not play an instrument unless given permission to do so.
LEAVE IT CLEANER THAN YOU FOUND IT: You are expected to clean up after yourself everyday. Do not leave instruments out of place, trash on the floor, or your stuff in the classroom. Pick up after yourself. Please fold and put away all stands.
SAFE SPACE: Please help create a safe space in the music room. We will never judge or make fun of another student for trying their best or trying something new.
