This course begins with a focus on the fundamentals of analytical writing for academic papers developing the core skills needed for success in higher level academic writing. Using narrative and descriptive writing, students will learn to describe the world around them in vivid detail, while composing a narrative that uses their own life experiences as a framework to build on. Transitioning into literature, with “The Great Gatsby” acting as the focal point for us to study and learn from. This course culminates with a major research paper, in which students will need to apply the skills they have learned over the year to compose either an argumentative or comparative essay that is supported by evidence and research.

-Students may re-submit work, so long as an genuine effort has been made on the first attempt. Re-submissions are due during the final week of a unit. Submissions later then this will not be accepted.
-Work that is incomplete will not be graded
-Cell phones are not to be used in class. Cell phone use is only acceptable if permission has been obtained beforehand
