Framed in the center of the quilt is a girl inked on sketchbook paper. She tips an uneasy expression over her shoulder, dress and hair billowing behind her. All the traits I gave her were meant to challenge the appearance of AI-generated art, down to her moles.
Gripping the edge of the frame is the Looming Creature’s hand–I wanted to give it six fingers, because you usually see “glitched” or “unnatural” hands in AI-generated art. If you look up higher, its right hand eclipses like a mutilated claw, which was equally intentional. (Just meant I conveniently needed to draw less fingers!)
I tried to emulate the habits of AI in drawing the Looming Creature’s face–eyes that melt into other pairs of eyelids, hair that molds into fabric. I hung fabric from her arm and leg, partly to give her the illusion of bleeding over the frame and into the background.
