Agriculture Side

For one half of my block I chose multiple fabrics that I think look like various pieces of land to represent the runoff from agriculture. I layered the fabric to create depth and give the illusion of a landscape of rolling hills.

River

For the water I chose a dark brown plain fabrice that I placed between the two sides. With this fabric I rippled it and ironed it to create lines to help show the texture and movement of the water and how this is not just affecting the areas where nitrates are polluted but places downstream as well. To help show that this piece is about nitrate runoff water pollution I put the chemical formula for nitrates in white embroidery thread in the water to show that it is a water pollution issue.

Industry Side

I chose a gray fabric with darker gray lines on it and a plain gray fabric layered on top to represent the nitrate runoff from cities, coming from wastewater, septic systems, and industrial discharge. I used black embroidery floss to create geometric outlines to help give depth and shape of other buildings.
