The yellow hibiscuses on this starfish represent my sister who is adopted. Her name is Hawaii and yellow hibiscuses are Hawaii's state flower. The starfish is embroidered to show a homemade feel which represents family.

I chose to use embroidery to give off a homemade and authentic look to represent the theme of family in my piece. I also wanted to make it look like my handwriting to help personalize it. 

The starfish is flashy and sparkly to give my piece some pop to it. I used this material in my flowers to represent the loud and outgoing side of my sister. I was also experimenting with different materials and loved how it came out.
