Grade 6+7 Hike to Cliff's Dam - 14 June

There’s a wonderful freedom that descends once the final Grade 6 and 7 exams are written. The chance to commit one’s efforts to the gods, to step back, breathe the crisp Midlands air deeply and intentionally, and to head off on our termly jaunt to Cliff’s Dam. While it is on the ‘to do’ list of the Traditions Out & About Badge, the actual purpose of our Cliff’s walk is to do nothing. Tongue firmly removed from cheek, doing nothing is a skill that needs attention in our humdrum lives…and it is a real gift to be able to share this with our children thanks to our gracious hosts, Pete and Kari Greene.

Having negotiated Sunrise Hill and the gentle slope down towards the Greene’s, the crimson-shirted human centipede that was our senior cohort soon arrived at our old friend, Cliff’s Dam. With picnic lunches having been delivered courtesy of Mr Xulu and the Capitol team, it was feet up and chill time.

Soon the laughter and exploring began, and any post-exam stress soon dissipated into the beautiful blue above. Somehow we managed to avoid having any unplanned dips (we’re saving that for Polar Bear Friday) and, suitably fed and watered, began the gentle stroll back to school, arriving in time to hear the Bell signal the end of the day… and exam week.

Well, until next time, anyway!
