Trip to Nyala Pans - 8-10 May

The teachers were excited as we knew what awaited us at Nyala Pans. We were eager for the children to meet the camp counsellors, see the tents we would sleep in, and ride the river's white water. Upon arrival, we were greeted with happy faces and the valley's beauty. Nyala Pans delivered everything we had hoped for. The weather was superb. Even the chill of the evening did not dampen our night walk and sunset soccer matches. The food was delicious, and we even enjoyed dessert at lunchtime. The children learned orienteering skills, collected the necessary ingredients to make the delicious potjies for our dinner, and succeeded at their task.

The highlight of our trip was our water and mud day. The river was just right for us to raft down as well as use the “gheko’s” if you wanted a bit more speed. A 5m courage jump into the river resulted in screams of all types of glee, fear and fun. The adrenaline junkies even went back for more than one jump! The Dance-off was one to remember!

The Grade 4s were little stars. Some overcame a few fears, made new friends and had so much fun while being kind to each other and made sure that everyone enjoyed themselves. Thank you, Nyala Pans, for a trip to remember.
