Pre-Primary Open Day - 14 May

The Pre-Primary Classrooms were abuzz with excitement on Tuesday 14 May, as many of our mothers, fathers, and some special friends joined us for our Open Classroom event. The children were thrilled to involve their parents in the daily activities, showcasing our hands-on approach to learning and active engagement in tasks. The joy the children experienced when inviting their parents to spend time with them in their familiar daily environment was tangible to witness.

Upon arrival, the parents were warmly greeted and guided through the six Free Play areas on offer during the daily school programme. When the shakers rang, children and adults managed to squeeze themselves into the classrooms for the work to begin.

Stepping into the classroom, a transformation unfolded as the Shongololos assumed the role of teachers, engaging in activities to create colour patterns, painting their art folders, and crafting clay creatures with the help of their parents.

The Grade 000 classroom was truly a-BUZZ, as the “BIG Bees” awaited the arrival of their special Mums and Dads. An important visit where our most precious family members and friends got to see just how clever ‘we’ all are and how much ‘we’ have all grown. Our ears had to listen carefully, and our hands had to work very hard to cut up all the vegetables and stick them onto a big black potjie pot, to make the most delicious vegetable soup. Our Mums and Dads worked hard too, and their bodies were all in control as we helped them complete the task. Everyone had so much fun and our completed pots are all so different and so beautiful.

The Chameleon children helped their special guest roll out playdough to form a word and together they helped each other stick wool onto the word they had been learning. As a team they threaded beads together, paying close attention to maintaining the pattern. Puzzles were built and the adults introduced the timeless and classic game of Ludo to the children. This resulted in a race to the finish by eager children and adults who still enjoy these simple pleasures reminding them of their childhood.

The Open classroom presented a wonderful chance for our parents to engage in the learning journey with their children, and our little champs relished the opportunity to share this experience with them!
