EL Olam Trip - 6-7 June

On a cold and frosty morning on the 6th of June the grade 1 children arrived at school with their bags packed, ready to go! Another exciting overnight trip had the children bursting with anticipation. We headed towards the sugar cane plantations at El Olam.

The children were greeted by the amazing camp leaders and were put into teams. A couple of games were played before we ate our delicious snack which fueled us for our nature walk around the farm. Children were taught the various local spoor linked to the antelope in the area. They were also warned to look out for the “sugarsaurus monster” living in the sugar cane fields.

A hearty lunch was eaten on their return to camp. After lunch the children thoroughly enjoyed learning about archery and shooting at targets. They then headed down to the obstacle course, where mud and fun were the order of the day. Team work and collaboration in true Clifton style were on display as they helped their team members over obstacles and through their fears.

After a hot shower and a well-deserved supper they were treated to a bedtime story around the bonfire. The children slept well and enjoyed hot chocolate and breakfast in the morning. Bags were packed, some more fun games were played before the excited children jumped back on the bus to Notties.

We are so proud of the grit and resilience shown by these young energetic Grade 1’s.
