November 3, 2024
Dear George Moses Horton Middle School Community,
I am thrilled to share the incredible success our student-athletes have had this fall, bringing pride and excitement to our Wildcat family! Athletics at GMH are a vital part of our commitment to nurturing the whole student through academics, arts, athletics, and every aspect of the educational journey.
First, congratulations to our Boys' soccer, Softball, and Cross-Country teams for their outstanding seasons! Our Softball team had an undefeated record, demonstrating incredible skill, teamwork, and determination. The Cross-Country team secured second place in the county, with a special commendation to Drew Yell, who brought home the gold in the boys' individual competition. Our Soccer team, with a few games left in their season, has consistently shown hard work and sportsmanship on the field.
As we move into the winter sports season, we are excited to continue offering our students the opportunity to grow and excel. We look forward to seeing familiar and new faces in Basketball and Cheerleading this year. Our Boy's Basketball team will be led again by Coach Scurlock, and our Girl's Basketball team by Coach Bland, bringing together nearly 40 years of dedicated coaching experience at GMH. Our Cheerleading team will be coached by Coach Alston, who brings both cheerleading and coaching experience. She serves our campus daily as a Spanish teacher and provides other academic support as well.
Tryouts for winter sports will take place as follows:
Boys Basketball: November 8th, 12th, and 13th, 5-7 PM
Girls Basketball: November 8th and 12th, 3-5 PM
Cheerleading: November 8th, 12th, and 13th, 3-5 PM
Please remember that all students trying out must have a current physical on file. Additionally, we’ll be hosting a Parent Meeting on Monday, November 18th, to ensure families have the information needed for the upcoming season. We hope to see everyone there!
Thank you for your continued support of GMH athletics and our commitment to a well-rounded educational experience for every Wildcat.
Best regards,
Mr. Robinson
