Dear GMH School Community,
For the last few weeks, I have been highlighting the excellent programs that enrich our students' educational experience at GMH. Following recent spotlights on our Arts and Athletics programs, I am pleased to showcase our outstanding Science department.
Our comprehensive Science program begins in 5th grade, where students start their journey through standards-based instruction covering the scientific method, physical sciences, biology, chemistry, and more. Our teachers create engaging, hands-on learning experiences that develop critical thinking and scientific inquiry skills.
This week, our multi-purpose room transformed into a showcase of scientific discovery as we held our annual Science Fair. Our 8th-grade students, along with other participating grade levels, presented their research projects to community judges who carefully evaluated each presentation and provided valuable feedback.
I am proud to announce our students who will represent GMH at the District Science Fair. First place honors went to Xavier Larger and Westley Moulder, while Lauren Plante earned second place, and Hayley Ford secured third place. Several students received Honorable Mention recognition: Skyler Tillery, Bradly Ukowchovera, Jacob Martinique, Ruby Parks, Mason Lutterloh, Ava Ens, Annastyn Trogdon, Cruz Arias, Leo Drust, Liam Patterson, Carter Reed, Evvie Becker, Kennedy Green, and Isabella Garcia. These students demonstrated exceptional scientific thinking and presentation skills.
I would also like to recognize Ms. Syroid's exceptional contributions to our Science program. Her commitment to innovative teaching has recently earned two significant grants: a $400 award from the Chatham Education Foundation for a module exploring the evolution of telephone technology, and a Central Electric Bright Ideas Grant of over $1,400 for new science materials. These resources will enhance cross-curricular learning opportunities and hands-on experiences for our students.
Ms. Syroid's achievements exemplify the dedication of our entire Science department. Our teachers consistently demonstrate thoughtful planning and commitment to providing engaging, meaningful scientific instruction for all students.
Thank you to our Science department (Ms. Syroid, Ms. Bryant, Ms. Mann, Ms. Spell, Ms. Scotton), our community judges, and our students for their contributions to making science education at GMH truly exceptional.
Have a wonderful week!
Best regards,
Mr. Robinson
