Horton Middle School Community Update

Dear Horton Families,

As we approach Spring Break and the conclusion of our 3rd nine weeks, I’d like to note that it has been wonderful to witness the growth and maturation of our students throughout this academic year. Their hard work, resilience, and dedication to learning continue to impress us every day.

I want to express my sincere gratitude for your ongoing partnership and collaboration. The success of our students is built upon the foundation of strong relationships between home and school, and your support makes a tremendous difference in what we're able to accomplish together.

Attached to this message is an infographic detailing our policies regarding cell phone usage, dress code expectations, and our Code of Civility that guides our community standards. Please take a moment to review these policies with your student as we continue to maintain a focused learning environment.

I am requesting your assistance with our morning car rider line. We've noticed increased congestion recently, and with your help, we can make the process more efficient for everyone.

How you can help: Please have your student exit the vehicle when you reach the area with the large black cones. When students remain in their cars until they reach the circle, only one student exits at a time, significantly extending the wait for families behind you. For our 5th grade families, this may mean that you are pulling all the way forward and your student has to walk up the sidewalk to the 5th grade hallway.

While waiting until the circle or stopping at the 5th-grade hallway might feel more convenient for your individual student, it creates a much longer process for our school community as a whole. Your cooperation in this matter will help ensure all students arrive to class on time and ready to learn.

As we prepare for Spring Break, please know how much we value each member of our school family. We look forward to a strong finish to the third quarter and returning refreshed for the final stretch of our school year.

Our 6th-8th grade students will be taking part in the 2025 North Carolina Youth Risk Behavior Survey / Youth Tobacco Survey (YRBS/YTS) on April 11th/April 14th. This survey is a collaboration between the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (DPI) and the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NC DHHS), in conjunction with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).  Opt-out permission slips will be coming home with your student. If you would like for your student not to participate, please return the permission slip by Friday 3/28.

With appreciation,

Mr. Robinson
