Dear GMH Families,

As we enter May, the last full month of the school year, I wanted to share some important information about our upcoming assessment season. Attached to this message is an infographic detailing our assessment process throughout the year, including STAR Assessments, NC Check-In Assessments, and End-of-Grade (EOG) tests. This year brings an exciting opportunity: students will be able to retest for EOGs during the school year while their first experience is still fresh. This differs from previous years, in which students had to return the week after school was out to retest. Retesting will take place on June 2nd for Reading and June 3rd for Math. Invitations for retesting will be sent on Friday, May 30th, based on data from the first administration. I want to emphasize that retesting is a positive opportunity for students to demonstrate their knowledge and should not be viewed as punishment or negatively. All GMH students will be participating in academic activities during the retest time to ensure no student feels singled out based on testing performance.

Celebrating Growth

I'm proud to reshare that last year, our students exceeded growth expectations in both Math and Reading, and we were just one point away from becoming a B school on the NC School Report Card. Current STAR data suggests that our students are on track to exceed growth again in both subjects, with proficiency improving by multiple percentage points compared to last year. Our students have been working hard and our teachers have been equally intentional about their instruction. I am very excited to see our students continue grow and see the fruits of their labors from this school year.

Final STAR Assessment

This week, students will take their final STAR assessment of the year. These results will help us form review groups, plan for scheduling, and compare data to predict EOG outcomes. Please encourage your child to take this assessment seriously and put their best foot forward.

End-of-Year Celebrations

We're planning multiple incentives and celebrations throughout May to keep students engaged and recognize their achievements. More details about these events will be shared soon. Thank you for your continued support as we work together to help your children finish the school year strong.

Sincerely,

Mr. Robinson
