LEADERSHIP
LEADERSHIP
Dear GMH Community,
As we embark on another exciting school year, I am thrilled to welcome you back to George Moses Horton Middle School. This year promises to be filled with growth, achievement, and countless opportunities for our students to shine.
Our Themes: "Shine" and "Earn the Confidence"
Chatham County Schools has chosen "Shine" as our district-wide theme for this academic year. At GMH, we're complementing this with our school-specific theme: "Earn the Confidence." These powerful concepts will guide our efforts throughout the year as we strive to create a positive and inspiring learning environment. We believe that by encouraging our students to shine, and by helping them earn confidence in their abilities, we are taking significant steps towards achieving our vision of preparing ALL students for bright and prosperous futures.
Our "Earn the Confidence" theme will be woven into all aspects of school life. We want to show our students that through preparation, hard work, and intentionality, they can develop a strong sense of confidence in their abilities and in themselves as individuals. This confidence will serve them well not just in their academic pursuits, but in all areas of their lives.
Throughout the year, we will also be speaking a lot about AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determinaton) which is something that all Chatham County Schools are taking part in and is an avenue for us to ensure we are preparing our students for college and career readiness. Four main pillars make up AVID including Leadership, Instruction, Systems, and Culture. In order to embed these principles into our work, you will notive that the Wildcat Weekly is now arranged based on these pillars. We will ensure information sent home is placed in the proper areas and that we are working to solidify our processes and protocols in each of the four pillars.
I am also extremely excited and grateful to the Chatham County Board of Education for approving free breakfast and lunch for all students this year. This highlights our commitment to ensuring that ALL students have what they need to be successful while at school and to remove barriers that may have prevented them from being able to put their best foot forward.
Open House
We are excited to announce our Open House, which will take place on Wednesday, August 21. The schedule is as follows:
5th Grade Families:
4:00 PM: Enjoy Kona Ice
4:30 PM: Presentation in the Multipurpose Room
6th-8th Grade Families:
6:00 PM: Floating Open House
During the Open House, schedules will be available in the Multipurpose Room, along with various information stations. Families will then have the opportunity to visit classrooms and meet their children's teachers.
As we begin this new school year, I am filled with enthusiasm for the many opportunities our students will have to shine. Whether in the classroom, on the sports field, in the arts, or in service to our community, each student has unique talents and potential waiting to be realized. Our dedicated staff is committed to providing a supportive and challenging environment where every student can thrive. We look forward to partnering with you, our GMH families, to make this year a resounding success.
Here's to a year of shining bright and earning confidence!
Warmest regards,
Mr. Robinson

INSTRUCTION
As we prepare for the upcoming school year, we want to provide you with some important information about student scheduling. Students will be receiving their schedules during this week's Open House.
We understand that scheduling is a topic of great interest and sometimes concern for both students and parents. It's important to know that creating class schedules is a complex process that takes into account numerous factors to ensure the best possible learning environment for each student. Some of the criteria we consider include:
Qualifications for Advanced Math
Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for students needing additional support
504 plans for students with medical needs
Academically Gifted qualifications
English Language Learners' needs
Class sizes and daily schedule constraints
Service time requirements
Chatham County Schools scheduling guidelines
As students receive their schedules, we understand that reactions may vary from excitement to disappointment. Please know that we have worked diligently to set every student up for success, and we will continue to do so throughout the school year.
It's important to note that schedule changes will only be made in rare cases and will not be based on student preferences or friendships. We are confident that we have created schedules and class lists that will benefit all students, allowing us to challenge them in ways that promote academic growth and build confidence in their abilities.
We appreciate your understanding and support as we implement these carefully crafted schedules. Our goal is to provide an environment where every student can thrive, learn, and grow. We believe that the current class arrangements will help us achieve this goal.
Thank you for your partnership in making this a successful school year for all our students.
