Dear GMH Community,
As we begin a new semester, I want to share some important thoughts about setting our students up for continued success at George Moses Horton Middle School.
The start of a new semester brings a fresh start for our students academically. This is an excellent opportunity for them to establish positive learning habits and work closely with their teachers. I encourage all students to take advantage of available support systems and maintain open communication with their teachers. For parents seeking to engage with the school, please remember to first connect with your child's teacher directly, and then reach out to administration if additional support is needed.
A key part of our learning environment is minimizing distractions in the classroom. While our YONDR pouch system has been largely successful, we've noticed an increase in students using AirPods and other wireless earbuds during class time. This circumvents the purpose of the protocols in place to ensure a distraction-free learning environment. Our teachers will be reinforcing these expectations, and Ms. Harris and I will fully support their efforts to maintain this important policy.
Additionally, I want to address our dress code policy. We emphasize these guidelines not as punitive measures, but as standards that contribute to a focused learning environment. I ask that you review these expectations with your students to help maintain our school's professional atmosphere.
Our shared commitment to these expectations creates an environment where students can focus on learning and growing. Together, we can ensure GMH remains an exceptional place for education and prepare our students for bright, prosperous futures.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support.
Sincerely,
Mr. Robinson

SYSTEMS
PowerSchool is an advanced Student Information System used by schools across the country. Its functions include grading, attendance, and the scheduling of courses. PowerSchool is capable of allowing parents and students to access student grades and attendance in real time, as well as state assessment individual reports. The purpose of this feature is to increase communication and collaboration among parents, students, and teachers. It gives parents and guardians more information about their child’s education and encourages students to take increased ownership of their learning.
Parents/Guardians are provided an opportunity each fall to review their contact information and their student's information in PowerSchool, yet it is important to contact our data manager Mrs. Bland if any parent/guardian or student information has changed at any time during the year. This will ensure families receive all school communications including (but not limited to) report cards, inclement weather notifications, emergencies, and weekly updates from the school.
