November 24, 2024
Dear George Moses Horton Middle School Families,
This week, I would like to highlight our Social Studies teachers and the work they do each day with our students. Ms. D’Aangelo, Ms. Boyer, Ms. Alston, Mr. Carroll, and Mr. Hall all work to provide opportunities for our students to explore the social studies curriculum for grades 5-8 and learn about citizenship, community, and our shared history. Our teachers’ approach goes beyond simply presenting historical facts, and they are committed to teaching students how to think critically about the information they encounter.
Our social studies program empowers students to examine historical events, analyze primary sources, and form their own thoughtful perspectives. We provide comprehensive information from our curriculum, but more importantly, we encourage students to ask questions, challenge assumptions, and develop their own nuanced understanding of the world.
From understanding local government to exploring global connections, our social studies curriculum helps students become informed, engaged citizens. We are dedicated to nurturing independent thinkers who can evaluate information carefully and draw their own well-reasoned conclusions. This is one step towards preparing our students for bright and prosperous futures.
I want to finish with a note of gratitude to our school community as we enter the week of the Thanksgiving holiday. I appreciate all of the collaboration and support that occurs daily to make GMH the best possible school for our students. Many thanks to our parents, volunteers, and community members who go above and beyond on behalf of the wildcats!
Have a wonderful week!
Best regards,
Mr. Robinson

SYSTEMS
PowerSchool is an advanced Student Information System used by schools across the country. Its functions include grading, attendance, and the scheduling of courses. PowerSchool is capable of allowing parents and students to access student grades and attendance in real time, as well as state assessment individual reports. The purpose of this feature is to increase communication and collaboration among parents, students, and teachers. It gives parents and guardians more information about their child’s education and encourages students to take increased ownership of their learning.
Parents/Guardians are provided an opportunity each fall to review their contact information and their student's information in PowerSchool, yet it is important to contact our data manager Mrs. Bland if any parent/guardian or student information has changed at any time during the year. This will ensure families receive all school communications including (but not limited to) report cards, inclement weather notifications, emergencies, and weekly updates from the school.
