Students who struggle with processing disorders or struggle with passages that are too wordy will benefit from using the website Smmry. Smmry (yes, it is spelled correctly!) summarizes articles pasted, copied, or uploaded into the website.
Why is this tool helpful? At first glance it appears to be a tool to make content more accessible for ESS or ELL students, but really Smmry is great for all students. Being able to summarize in just a few sentences could help teach your students main idea. You could challenge students to summarize a piece of writing and then check their summaries with the what SMMRY provides on the same topic. Was it accurate? For your own professional learning, Smmry can save you time by simplifying a large article or piece of writing down to the main idea. Time always seem lacking...why not save time with this great tech tool!
If you use SMMRY with your students you can earn points in Jacket YOUniversity 3 by submitting a brief reflection here.
