Technology is rarely used in the gym and weight room setting. Last school year, Kayla Ralston utilized a basic Google Sheet for her Girls’ Weight Training class to track personal records (PRs). She wanted the girls to see and interact with their PR Sheet, but it became too tedious and inefficient for her to share and document each girls’ PRs. Kayla researched applications that would allow her students to personally document their PRs and collaborate with their peers about gains and future goals. A conversation with a student gave her the idea that Google Classroom could serve as the platform she was searching for to utilize in the Girls’ Weight Training class.

Google Classroom has allowed her to create questionnaires that record students’ personal goals and allows her to receive requests for future goals, which makes planning for each work out more individualized toward the needs of students. Likewise, Google Classroom allows Kayla to pull data and create Sheets for individual students to present progress toward goals. Students can enter PRs into the platform, which allows them, their peers, and Kayla to visualize growth.
