This week’s freshman spotlight shines on Cale Maas. Cale is the son of Shawn and Sara Maas and is an only child. When asked who his favorite senior is, he said Ben Tibken and Sammi Jahde because he’s known them his whole life. Some advice he has for incoming freshman is to respect the upperclassmen. Cale is involved in cross country, basketball, track, and student council. In his free time, Cale says he lays in his bed and plays video games. One thing on his bucket list is to visit Paris, France. Welcome to high school Cale!

This week’s freshman spotlight shines on Tucker Paulsen. Tucker is the son of Shawn and Krista Paulsen. Tucker has two brothers, Brody and Makade. Tucker had a smooth transition into high school making many friends and says that his favorite senior is Haley Luke because she is nice. Some advice Tucker has for incoming freshman is to try new things. Tucker is involved in basketball and likes to play video games and hangout with friends in his spare time. This week our freshman spotlight focuses on Laynie Reeves. Laynie is the daughter of Jennifer and Darren Reeves. Laynie is one of eight children with four brothers and three sisters. When asking Laynie who her favorite senior is, she commented, “It is Allison Spieker, because she is fun to be around.” Some advice she has for incoming freshmen is that the upperclassmen don't all hate you and to be mature. Laynie is involved in soccer and speech, and likes to hangout with her friends in her spare time. One thing Laynie has on her bucket list is to go to Bora Bora. Welcome to CAM High School, Laynie!

This week on the freshman spotlight we have Sam Foreman. Sam is an only child. When asked who his favorite senior is, he said it is Ben Tibken because he is nice to him and everyone else. His advice to incoming freshman is to be smart and mature. Sam is involved in football, basketball, track, and baseball. In his spare time he said he likes to play video games. When asked who her favorite senior is she said, “Allison Spieker, because she encourages me and is a great friend”. Reese is involved in many sports such as basketball, softball, track, and volleyball. Her advice to incoming freshmen is “Don’t be afraid to try new things.'' Reese says that in her spare time she enjoys going to the Health and Wellness Center in Anita. Our next shining spotlight is on Sydney Becker, who is excited for all of the new opportunities to come. Sydney’s advice for incoming freshman is to always have an open mind. Her family consists of a first grade sister, a second grade brother, a dog named Sophie, and a horse named Duke. She also has a pig named Glen, five goats named Tillie, Blanch, Ethel, Buddy, and Zach. She loves working with animals because she just loves showing them. She doesn’t know who her favorite senior is. She is involved in FFA, speech, track, dance, and 4-H. Happy to meet you Sydney!
Our next freshman is Naomi Grubbs who’s excited for the basketball season and loves basketball so much, she dreams of scoring 1000 points in a single game. Her advice to incoming freshmen is don’t be scared of upperclassmen. She has four adopted brothers named Derek, Austin, Chance, and Marshall and one adopted sister named Sam. Naomi loves hanging out with her friends. Naomi’s favorite seniors are Jacob Holste because he’s funny and nice-ish and Jozie Lett because she is very lovable. Naomi is involved in basketball, volleyball, track, softball, FCA, student council, and AAU basketball. Never stop doing what you love Naomi!
This week, our freshman spotlight shines on Karys Hunt, who loves spending her free time with her friends. She doesn’t know why, but her favorite senior is Allison Spieker. Her family consists of two brothers, Taylor and Ian, and her two dogs Bella and Mia. She’s involved in softball, basketball, volleyball, track, and speech. Karys’s favorite time of year is winter because she loves Christmas. Her advice to incoming freshmen is to not be afraid of upperclassmen. She wants to check ‘travel around the world’ off her bucket list. We can’t wait to get to know you, Karys!
Our next freshman spotlight falls on Aiden Clark, who’s talented at writing stories and speeches. His favorite senior is Tyzik Case because they’ve been friends since they met in daycare. He feared going into high school because he thought he might have trouble making friends, but it has not been a problem. His favorite things to do are to eat cookies, play video games, and hang out with his sister and his dog. His plans for after high school are unknown, but we hope you’ll find out soon. This week’s freshman spotlight shines on Ashton Porter who’s excited to meet new people. His plan after high school is to go to college and then visit his father. He says that the biggest change from middle school to high school is the amount of homework and the class schedules. The easiest thing for Ashton to adjust to is being able to find his way around the school, while the hardest is how long the classes are. His favorite senior is Cryssi Scybert because he likes that she’s a nice person and that she doesn’t get mad at her peers easily. We love your spirit Ashton. Keep it up!
This week’s spotlight shines on Shelby Rodenberg whose biggest excitement for high school is being able to go to prom. When asked who her favorite senior was, she said it was Autumn Peron because she has a pretty singing voice. Her biggest fear going into high school was not knowing anyone, but she has managed thus far. She thought the biggest change from middle school to high school was the block schedule, but she has easily adjusted. Shelby has eight siblings, 14 if you count her six pets! After high school, she wants to go to college to become a teacher. Great to meet you Shelby!
It’s time to say hi to Bob Dine for our next freshman spotlight. His favorite senior is Cryssi Scybert because he thinks she is kind and generous. Another reason he likes her the most is because she helped chase down his new puppy. His reason for loving high school is unknown, along with his plans after school. Bob thinks that the biggest change from middle school to high school is the classes. The only subject that’s difficult for him is math. Bob loves taking care of his six pets. We can’t wait to get to know you, Bob!
This week we’ll talk about Ali Namanny, who’s excited for all of her classes. One of her biggest fears coming into high school was not being able to fit in, but now that she’s in many friend circles, she’s truly not alone. After she graduates, she plans to go to college to become a therapist. She says this because she wants to help people. Her hobbies include singing, dancing, making art, writing, and riding horses. She believes that the easiest thing to adjust to was the class schedule and how to get to her classes, while the hardest was meeting other peoples’ expectations. Ali also believes that the biggest change from middle school to high school was being given more freedom and time between classes. She can’t wait for this year’s prom, even though she may not be able to go. Great to meet you Ali.
This week's spotlight shines on Peter McAfee. His biggest fear coming into high school was not knowing any of the teachers, but he found that they were easy to get to know. He was especially excited about his transition because of the different classes he could take. Peter is unsure of his career plans after high school. He has three siblings: two sisters and one brother along with a Yorkie named Phil. One of his favorite things to do is play video games. His personal favorite game is Overwatch. He was most excited to watch the homecoming game. At the moment, he doesn’t have a favorite class. Welcome to High School Peter.
This week’s freshman spotlight is going to be on Abby Tibken. Abby is the daughter of Mike and Leann Tibken and has an older brother, Ben. When asked what made her most nervous about coming to high school, she responded, “being with new people and having to meet new teachers.” Abby’s favorite school lunch is walking tacos. She is actively involved in volleyball, basketball, track, and student council. She is still undecided on what her plans are after she graduates high school, but she has plenty of time to decide. Some things she is most excited for this year would have to be sporting events and the parking lot parties afterwards. When Abby was asked what order she put her socks and shoes on she said, “if you don’t do sock sock shoe shoe you are psycho. No questions asked.” Welcome to high school, Abby!
When Essie Riker was asked what she was most excited about going into this year, she said that it was being in a new school. However, her biggest fear of going into high school was going to the wrong class, but now she knows it wasn’t something to worry about. Since Essie started her ninth-grade year, she hasn’t noticed any major differences from middle school to high school. So far, she believes that she has adjusted fairly well to being a freshman. The easiest thing for her was getting to know her new teachers. Essie’s future plans include going to a four-year college where she will study kinesiology (the study of movement), then plans to attend a three-year college to get a degree in physical therapy.
