You Can't Mask Our Cougar Pride

The Coronavirus isn't stopping the CAM cheer squad from cheering on their favorite team as the new cheer sponsor, Angie Baylor, gets the girls into shape for the new season. CAM Cheer has five returning seniors Kylie Alff, Zoey Baylor, Taylor Bower, Jade Jackson, and Emily Plagman, with a new addition, Bionca Wendt. Juniors Abigail Follmann and Elly Peters have brought three great years of experience and two new juniors joining the cheer squad are Maddie Holtz and Paige Jensen. Alex Petersen, the only returning sophomore, is joined by new member Abby Tibken. Last but not least, we have the two new freshmen joining the squad Payton LaPorte and Grace Watson.

Due to the 2020 COVID pandemic, CAM cheer decided to put a positive spin and start a new campaign called “Spread Kindness not COVID.” The cheerleaders’ main goal is to get the whole CAM Cougar community involved even if it's by giving goodies to the teachers, an inspirational note to a friend, or even a compliment to a stranger. CAM cheer is out to prove that you can't mask their Cougar pride and challenges everyone to spread kindness during these hard times.

Prepping for Cheerleading

This years cheerleading season started in March with tryouts. From then, summer practices were scheduled and teams were decided. The coach, Ellie Stirek, said, “It’s very important for the girls to be at most practices in the summer and to develop a bond before the school year starts. Being able to practice stunting, learn cheers, and the fight song especially for incoming freshman. It’s my goal each year to strive for a strong bond with the girls so they can be leaders. It’s all about being a team and not standing out individually. Cheerleading is a positive way to be a part of a team and our goal is to lead our crowd and to keep the teams we are cheering for pumped up! I am very proud of the girls I have this year and their dedication and drive to make it the best year! Always, my goal is to make it the best year for them!”
