Sports 4 Support

For the last quarter of the 2018-2019 school year, the CAM High School has started a program called Sports 4 Support. In this program, chosen students from the high school go to the north elementary to mentor younger students. During this time, certain elementary students are assigned to different high school students to participate with in sports or to build a personal relationship with. Mrs. McCann started thinking about the great potential our teens have and how a lot of these young boys and girls already look up to our teens because they come and watch them in their sports. Para, Deb McCann and Principal, Brian Fogelman, are the leaders behind this program along with the following students who were chosen; DeShawn Carr, Shelby Stephenson, Macy Ticknor, Isaac Bower, Ben Tibken, Jacob Holste, Ethan Fast, Samantha Jahde, Marissa Spieker, Lane Spieker, and Cade Ticknor. These students will be continuing this program throughout the year and hopefully getting to know some and grow some great friendships. Mrs. McCann stated, “The program is exceeding my expectations. The mentors have been great. They truly are the whole package. They bring the fun and also show the elementary kids better ways to handle their aggression. I love seeing how excited the kids are when they come out to lunch recess on the days of Sports 4 Support.”

Sisters on the Gridiron

On Sunday, September 23, the CAM Student Council put on their first Powderpuff event. At 5pm, the freshmen and sophomore girls marched onto the field with hopes that they’ll walk off and be able to play in the championship game. The game went into double overtime, until the sophomore girls came out on top, eliminating the freshman from the bracket. Next up, we had the juniors and seniors face off in an exciting matchup. Going into this game, the juniors didn’t have too high of expectations but they all surprised themselves when they went into overtime, with the score of 14-14. The seniors ran their final play, getting them a leading score of 20-14, allowing them to advance to the next round. Finally, the seniors met the sophomores on the field to see who would come out as champions. The game was going a steady 0-0 until sophomore, Zoey Baylor, made the first touchdown and the game kept getting more exciting from there. The anticipation was high and the crowd was great as the sophomore girls celebrated.
