CAM CouGALS Volley Their Way to the Top

The CAM volleyball girls are off to a great start this season. Last Saturday, September 1st, we competed in a tournament against AHSTW,Cardinal of Eldon, and Panorama. The first team we played against was Cardinal of Eldon, the CAM girls played a very competitive game and won, 21-9, 21-5. AHSTW was the next group of people we competed with. We played strongly but lost a close game of, 19-21, 17-21. The last game we played was against Panorama, and we had to win this game to be able to win the tournament. Our CAM girls played a very excellent game and we won the close game of, 21-18, 21-19. This put us in the championship bracket with the other winning team, Coon Rapids-Bayard. I asked Coach Fredin his thoughts on the games and the season and he said. "I was really proud of the effort the girls showed on Saturday. The last 2 years we lost in the championship match, so winning the tournament this year was a great accomplishment. We were able to win some very close games, which shows the poise the players have this year. With conference play starting next week, we need to keep playing at the level we have so far and continue to improve as the season goes on.”

CAM Volleyball Snatches the Win

Tuesday the CAM volleyball girls went up against the Atlantic Trojans, ACGC and East Union. The Cougar ladies played a great game. Our offense was playing tremendously and our defense tactics were amazing as well. Coach Wessling had a few thoughts on how the game’s turnout was. He said “ I thought we played consistently well. This varsity group is very talented and can do some very special things this year if we keep believing in ourselves. Macy Ticknor had a very good night offensively as well as Madison Gettler. Paige McAfee and Isabel Kinzie provided a big block in the front row but were also offensive weapons. Then you have Shelby Stephenson who is the offensive leader, being the setter who was consistent is getting the sets where they needed to. Sidney Aupperle was also a spark that came in off the bench to get a through a couple difficult times. To keep things going in the right direction, we need to focus on our serving and passing game. We missed too many serves and our passing game was not were it can be. Overall I was very please with the night, just little things here and there that we need to fix.”

Wrapping Up The Season

On Thursday, October 25th, the Cougars played there last volleyball match of the 2018 season. They played in Audubon against the Ar-We-Va rockets. It was a close game but they ended up short. Macy Ticknor led the team in kills with 12 and Madison Getter led the team in digs with 5.

They were ranked top 15 the majority of the season, which hasn’t happened in years. They will be losing five seniors who have really turned around the volleyball program. Those five are Shelby Stephenson, Macy Ticknor, Sidney Aupperle, Isabel Kinzie, and Madison Gettler. Stephenson said about their season, “I was pretty happy and I think we improved a lot from last year, but I was sad to see it end. My advice to younger classmen would be to play hard in every game and don’t take it for granted. Also by the best teammate and friend you could be!”
