Cougar's Historic Season Comes to an End

Tuesday, February 25th, the Cougars took on the Stanton Vikings at home for the second round of the postseason. This was the second matchup of the year between these teams. The Cougars would come out on top 65-51, with four players in double figures. Jacob Holste scored a game-high of 16, Connor McKee dropped 15, Ben Tibken had 14, and Nate Hensley added 11. Tibken shot a perfect 7-7 from the field. Holste and Lane Spieker also combined for 13 rebounds and six steals. The Cougars advanced to the district finals for the first time since the 2011-2012 season. They also tied them for the most wins in a season with 19. They had one day of rest and then it was game day again.

Thursday, February 27th, they traveled to West Central Valley to take on the Martensdale-St. Mary’s Blue Devils. The Cougars fought hard the entire game and gave it everything they had, only being down by one at halftime, but would come up just short, losing 69-61. They again had four players in double figures. Hensley led the way with 14, while Tibken, Holste, and Ethan Arp added 13, 11, and ten, respectively. Holste and Hensley each had three steals, and McKee had three blocks. This would be the end of an incredible run by this senior class who has the most wins by a single class. Congratulations on an amazing season, Cougars!!

Cougars onto the Second Round

Thursday, February 20th, the two-seeded Cougars took on the seven-seeded Earlham Cardinals in the first round of regional play. This was a match up between two really good teams, in fact BC Moore ratings predicted that the Cougars were favored by .64 of a point and was KMALand’s closest predicted game. It was a classic battle the whole game, with the Cougars eventually coming out on top, 71-66. The Cougars had four players in double figures. Connor Mckee dropped 20, Jacob Holste had 17, Nate Hensley had 13, and Ben Tibken had 11. Holste dished out a career high seven assists, Hensley and Lane Spieker combined for seven steals, and McKee went 11-12 from the free throw line, including 7-7 in the fourth quarter. With under 20 seconds left, the Cougars were up by only four. The Cardinals stole the inbounds pass and went up for a layup and Holste blocked the ball. It landed in Mckee’s hands and he would get fouled and sink two free throws to ice the game. Good luck Cougars!!

Cougars Keep on Rollin'

Tuesday, February 4th, the Cougars traveled to Woodbine to take on the Tigers. They came out on top, winning this one 44-38. They were led by Jacob Holste with ten points and seven rebounds, with Lane Spieker also adding ten points. This is the last of their five straight road games. In those games, they posted a respectable 4-1 record. They were finally back at home Thursday, as they took on the Audubon Wheelers. The Cougars snuck away with a win, coming out on top, 52-48. They were led by Ethan Arp and Connor McKee who scored 16 and 15, respectively. Holste also added nine points and a career high ten rebounds. Friday, the Exira-EHK Spartans came to town for the annual Pink-Out game, as well as Senior Recognition night. The Cougars won 73-53, and the game had multiple stars. The leading scorer was McKee, who dropped a career high and team season-high 24 points. He also shot an almost perfect 11-12 from the floor. Spieker added 14 points with four three-pointers, and Arp also added 12. Finally, senior Mason Chester scored his first career varsity points on a three pointer. This week the Cougars will travel to Paton-Churdan, Monday, to take on the Rockets. Then they’ll battle the Nodaway Valley Wolverine’s at home Friday, for their final game of the regular season. Cougars Building Momentum

The Cougars started off this two-game week by traveling to Glidden to take on the Glidden-Ralston Wildcats. The Cougars were able to take care of business, winning this one 66-54. They had three players in double digits, led by Lane Spieker with 15 points, and Ethan Arp and Jacob Holste with 13 each. Holste also added on three assists and three steals. After their victory at Glidden, they ventured to Stanton to take on the 13-1 Vikings. The Cougars fought off a late Stanton comeback to come out on top 51-49. The Cougars were led by Nate Henlsey with 14 points, and dropped a team season high with four three-pointers. Ben Tibken added ten points and eight rebounds. Connor McKee also added ten points and seven rebounds. The Cougars next three games will be at Woodbine Tuesday, and then back to back home games Thursday and Friday, as they take on Audubon and Exira-EHK. Cougars Coming Down the Backstretch

Tuesday, January 21st, the Cougars took on the Coon Rapids-Bayard Crusaders. They were close the whole game, but unfortunately lost this one 44-49. The top scorers were Nate Hensley with ten, and Lane Spieker with nine. Colby Rich also had a career high ten rebounds. The Cougars then traveled to Guthrie Center on Thursday to take on the AC/GC Chargers. Thursday’s game would be the start of five straight away games. They went back and forth the entire game, but after going into overtime, the Cougars again fell short losing 66-72. They were led by Jacob Holste with a season-high 17 points and Ethan Arp with 13. They also had five players with four or more rebounds, and seven players with at least two assists. The very next day, they traveled to Westside to take on the Ar-We-Va Rockets. The Cougars fell down 14-23 after the first quarter but they came back to win this one 55-48. They had three players in double figures, led by Holste with 15 points and nine rebounds, Arp with 11, and Connor McKee with 10. Hensley also grabbed eleven important rebounds. The Cougars next two games are Tuesday at Glidden and Thursday at Stanton. Good luck Cougars!

Cougars Go 2-1 In A Nail-Biting Week

This three-game week kicked off at home against the Paton-Churdan Rockets, Monday, January 13th. After trailing 14-27 after the first quarter, the Cougars came back and won 69-50. The Cougars had four players in double figures, Nate Hensley, Colby Rich, Connor McKee, and Ethan Arp. The very next day, they were back at home matching up against the Boyer Valley Bulldogs. This would be the start of the second round of conference games. It was neck and neck the entire game. but CAM fell just short losing this one 59-60, for their second loss of the year. Finally, to finish out the week, the Cougars traveled all the way to Mondamin, Thursday, to take on the West Harrison Hawkeyes. This game also remained close down to the final buzzer, but Hensley and McKee would go on to sink nine clutch free throws in the last minute to ice the game. The Cougars managed to come away with the victory, winning 66-60. The Cougars had seven players with at least six points and were led by seniors Hensley, Ben Tibken, and Jacob Holste, all with 12. Best of luck to the Cougars as they take on the Ar-We-Va Rockets on Friday, January 24th on the road!

Cougars Are Back in Action

It’s been awhile since you last heard from us due to Christmas break. Right before the break, the Cougars played two games and came out on top in both cases to improve to a 6-0 record. Friday, January 3rd, the Cougars were back to work against the Woodbine Tigers. The score was 25-23 at the half, but the Cougars would outscore them 32 to 11 in the second half to come out on top with a final score of 57-34. Colby Rich led the way with 13 points and 7 rebounds. Lane Spieker also pitched in 9 points. Tuesday, they were on the road again taking on the 4-3 Exira-EHK Spartans. The Cougars would suffer their first loss of the year, losing this one 48-58. Jacob Holste was the top performer with 13 points and 4 steals. Nate Hensley and Spieker also contributed 8 and 7 points, respectively. The Friday game against Paton-Churdan Rockets was postponed to Monday, January 13th. Good luck Cougars!!

CAM Perfect Through Four Games

The Cougars traveled to Coon Rapids to take on the Crusaders, Tuesday, December 10th. They came out on top 44-29. The Cougars were led by Connor McKee with 12 points, six rebounds, and five steals. Nate Hensley also added nine points. The Cougars were back at home Friday to take on the Ar-We-Va Rockets. They came out victorious, winning this one 45-33. Ethan Arp led CAM with 12 points while Nate Hensley secured a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds. The boys will be at home for both games next week as they take on Southwest Valley and Glidden-Ralston. Good luck Cougars!!

Cougars Off To Hot Start

The Cougars started off their 2019-2020 season with two games this week. First they traveled to Boyer Valley to take on the Bulldogs, Tuesday, December 3rd. They came away with a narrow victory coming out on top 44-43. Connor McKee was the top scorer with 11, while also adding ten rebounds. Colby Rich also added ten points, Lane Spieker added eight rebounds and Nate Hensley had five assists and three steals. After this huge win, the Cougars were at home for the first time this year against the West Harrison Hawkeyes, Friday, December 6th. They won this contest 70-45. The Cougars were led by Ben Tibken who dropped a career high of 17 points. Rich and Hensley also added 16 and 13 points, respectively. Next week, the Cougars will travel to Coon-Rapids Bayard, and be at home against Ar-We-Va. Good job boys!!
