Tackling Tigers For the Win

The CAM Cougars started their football season last Friday night on August 28th, and they started off strong by dominating the Griswold Tigers, with a final score of 60-8. New to the coaching staff this year are Nick Kauffman, Drew Ticknor, and Jay Eden. In addition to these three, Assistant Coach Luke Symonds and Head Coach Barry Bower will round out the staff for our CAM Cougars. The Cougars had some returning faces to the starting lineup. Many people were curious to see who would step up to replace the all senior line from last year. They got their answer Friday night. On defense, Reese Oglesbee and Colby Rich took the end and tackle spots. These juniors had a decent amount of game experience from last year. Replacing Ethan Fast at the nose position is the sophomore Ty Eblen. These three would combine to have 12 total tackles. On the offensive side, Oglesbee took a guard spot. Near the end of his sophomore year he would be rotated in so he was familiar with that spot and was ready to play. Taking the other guard spot would be sophomore Gavyn Jessen. Snapping the ball at center is junior Nolan Hensley. These guys knew going into this season they would have some big shoes to fill, but that didn’t stop them from giving their all.

Joe Kauffman and Karter Hilpipre each had a rushing touchdown and Lane Spieker had two. Rich had two receiving touchdowns both coming from Spieker. Connor McKee scored on a kickoff return while Spieker took a punt return for a touchdown. The Cougars scored almost every time they had the ball in the first half, while holding the Tigers to only scoring once in the second quarter. After a drive from the Cougars leading to a score, the second half gave the JV and Freshman play time, and a taste of what Friday night lights mean. The Cougars will try to keep their momentum rolling into next week against the Bedford Bulldogs on September 4th, at home. The CAM Digital Media will be live streaming the game on KJAN.
