Mid-Year Concert Coming Up

With the Mid-Year concert fast approaching on February 27th, directors Mr. Farrell and Mr. West are beginning to select pieces of music for the students to play. Mr. West has chosen a piece called Sunset Glow by Charles Minelli, a compilation of pieces by John Williams, a composer famous for writing for E.T., Star Wars, etc., and Shrek Soundtrack Highlights arranged by John Moss. Mr. West, band director, says, “Although we are a little bummed that Allstar by Smashmouth is not in the Shrek Soundtrack Highlights, it will still be a really fun piece for us to perform as a band.” Mr. Farrel, choir director, says, "I am very excited for our upcoming performance. We will be playing music from famous films and singing some old classics. I am expecting a great night with some great music. I am most excited to see our progress since the beginning of the year. It is nice to see the students engaging with material and improving through the winter months. I would like to personally extend a welcome to friends, family, and community to come and join us on February 27th for a great night of exciting music." Be sure to come support the CAM band and vocal department.

Thoroughly Modern Millie Was A Great Success

On November 15th and 16th, the CAM High School Music Department executed a jaw-dropping performance of “Thoroughly Modern Millie”, a musical that’s based in the 1920s about a woman who’s trying to be as “new woman” as she can be. The turnout for this musical was amazing! On Friday, there were 250 people, and the next night held 150 people. The directors of this musical were Mr. Farrell, Ms. Rudolph, and Mr. West. The CAM Music Department along with the Spy Staff would like to thank all of the music boosters, because, without them, this musical wouldn’t have been possible. The boosters include Kimberly Behnken, Katie Ehrman, Liz Tobak, Linda Havens, Rana Thomsen, Lindsay Blaine, Jordan Aggen, Jennifer Erickson, Kellie Nath, and Kristi Plagman. Also, we’d like to give recognition to the backstage crew; Eyon Steffensen (lights), Haley Luke (set director), Kaylee Hardin (curtain), Darcy Denney (sound), Paige Jensen (spotlight), Tyzik Case (camera), and Carson Cary (set mover). For both nights, they had cheesecake for the audience to enjoy, so a huge thank you to Tami Williamson for making 400 of these! There’s one last group of people we would like to thank, and that is CAM Digital Media for being there both nights to broadcast the fall musical. Afterward, Mr. Farrell commented, "I am so grateful for such a great group of kids to work with. They did a great job bringing the characters to life and creating a fun atmosphere both performance nights. I am so thankful for the support of the parents and the support of the community for our music program."

Cast Prepares for Thoroughly Modern Millie

On October 28th, the CAM high school music department began their night practices to prepare for this year’s musical on November 15th & 16th. The night practices will continue almost every day up until the night before the first show. Ms. Jody Ruldolph, one of the directors, told the vocal students they needed to push and advertise the musical because four hundred cheesecakes are being made to accommodate the expected crowd. The experienced upperclassmen are showing leadership by working with the underclassmen to help calm their nerves before opening night. The music department looks forward to performing for everyone!

Super Soup Supper

On Thursday, September 19th, the vocal and band students will be performing at the Homecoming Soup Supper which will begin at 5:00 pm! Millie's Cast and Crew

Tuesday, September 3rd, the musical’s main cast was chosen by Jacob Farrell and Jody Rudolph. A total of seven main parts were given out to our students! To start off, the role of Millie was given to junior; Natalie Blaine, Jimmy was given to sophomore; Mason Stevens, Dorothy was given to Freshman; Essie Riker, Trevor was given to senior; Hunter Frost, Mrs. Flannery was given to senior; Charlotte Williamson, and finally, Mrs. Meers was given to senior; Lexie Ehrman. Mr. Farrell and Ms. Rudolph explained how they picked the cast. Students were chosen based on their singing accuracy, tone, and how well they can characterize their part. It was also said that this year there is an incredibly strong singing crew and two of the main female roles are strong dancers! In the upcoming months, the CAM musical crew will have to pace themselves and learn something every day, whether it be their lines, their singing scenes, choreography, or just being where they need to be! In the upcoming practices, there will be many stage building days so the musical will be ready for the public!

"Thoroughly Miss Modern Millie" Comes to CAM

CAM’’s homecoming soup-supper will feature one of the songs in this year’s musical, Thoroughly Miss Modern Millie, performed by the CAM music students. CAM’s vocal students often run through their lines in the morning and sing to memorize songs during class. Several of the dances have been choreographed by Halie Giegerich and Natalie Blaine. Mr. Farrell has done a lot of set work after school and has helped everyone tremendously.

Costumes Emerge

Just recently, CAM got their costumes for “Beauty and The Beast”. The organization process took a while, however, everyone's costumes are neatly strung around the room. Belle is the most excited about her beautiful yellow gown. There is still morning practices for everyone. It is definitely a hustle for the cast. Good job CAM vocal students, and good luck for the future!

CAM’s Musical Progress Report

The vocalist of CAM have begun their hard work. The musical season has started with morning practices, usually daily. They started by just looking through the musical and getting a feel for the book and program. Currently, practice consists of separating parts to practice on their own and working little at a time to make sure everything gets learned. The use of makeshift props and imagination to try to replicate the scenes are being used. Anyone can come in after school or class and work on their own parts personally with Mr. Farrell, who has been an extremely motivated teacher during this journey. Miss Rudolph and Mr. West are also helping set up the musical with decision making, input, and advice for the student and Mr. Farrell. Good luck to the CAM music department!
