Headed to the Blue Oval

On Friday, May 10th, The CAM Boys Track team headed to Griswold to try and punch their ticket to the state meet. The meet was originally supposed to be held on Thursday, but due to cold and windy weather, it was postponed to Friday. The boy's team have seven members and relays headed to the state track meet in Des Moines! DeShawn Carr is running in the open 100 and the Long Jump. Connor McKee is representing CAM in the 110 Highs and the 400 Lows. Mitchell Williamson holds the school record for the Shot Put now so he will be there to show his skill. Jacob Holste leaped his way to state in the High Jump. The Shuttle Hurdle relay (Colby Rich, Kolby Nelsen, Jacob Holste, Connor McKee), which has been a star all year long, is headed as well! Congratulations to all of the boys and girls headed to the State Meet!

Girls Track On a Roll

On April 29th, the girls' track team traveled to West Harrison to compete. As a team, the Cougars placed 4th out of nine teams. The team received a total of 86 points, just one point behind West Harrison. Jade Jackson had an outstanding performance, placing first in both High Jump (4’10”) and the 100 Meter Hurdles. Jackson acquired 20 points to put towards the team score. Cadence Stephenson ran the 1500 Meter Run in 6:16.49 and placed 4th. Allison Spieker placed 3rd in Shot Put and Molly Venteicher, 5th. Abby Follmann jumped 14’1” in Long Jump, placing 3rd. The 4x100 Meter Relay team and 4x200 Relay team both placed second, giving the team 16 points altogether.

Field Events Shine Throughout the Week

On Monday, April 29th, the CAM Boys Track team travelled to West Harrison to compete in the Rolling Valley Conference meet. The boys placed 2nd overall with 105 points. Connor McKee placed 2nd in the 110 Highs and 400 Lows. Ethan Follmann placed 4th in the 1600m and 2nd in the 3200m. Mitchell Williamson and Cade Ticknor went 3rd and 4th in the Discus. Mitchell Williamson won the shot put with a conference and school record of 49’10 ½ “. The 4x100m team (Mitchell Williamson, Isaac Bower, Preston Murphy, Darien Burnison) placed 2nd with a time of 47.93s. The Shuttle Hurdle team (Jacob Holste, Colby Rich, Kolby Nelsen, Connor McKee) placed 1st with a time of 1:05.67s.

On Thursday, May 2nd, the team ran at the Southwest Valley meet in Corning. CAM placed 2nd with 91 points, 27 points behind 1st place. Connor McKee won the 110 Highs and 400 Lows. Mitchell Williamson placed 3rd and Darien Burnison placed 5th in the 100m dash. Jacob Holste won the High Jump with a leap of 5’10”. The Shuttle Hurdle Relay team placed 2nd with a time of 1:05.82s. The 4x100 team (Mitchell Williamson, Isaac Bower, Darien Burnison, DeShawn Carr) placed 1st with a time of 46.54, just 0.1s off of the school record.


Always Looking For Improvement

On Thursday, April 25th, the Cougars travelled to Van Meter to compete with some very tough 2A teams. Jacob Holste knocked it out of the park as he jumped his way to first place with 6’0”. Mitchell Williamson placed 2nd in the Shot Put with a throw of 47’ and placed 3rd in the Discus with a toss of 128’9”. Michael Hill and Reese Oglesbee also beat their personal record in the 800m run with times of 2:20.99s and 2:22.41s. Connor McKee received 2nd in the 110 Highs (15.93) and 1st in the 400 Lows (57.46). The Shuttle Hurdle team (Kolby Nelson, Colby Rich, Jacob Holste, Connor McKee) placed 2nd with a time of 1:05.82s.

Getting Ready For Postseason

On Tuesday, April 23rd, the CAM Boys Track team traveled to Audubon for a co-ed meet. Jacob Holste started the Cougars off on the right note, placing 1st in the high jump with a leap of 5’10”. Another gold medal went to Connor Mckee in the 400 Lows with a time of 59.23s. Connor also placed 4th in the 110 Highs with a time of 16.21s. Darien Burnison placed 5th in the long jump with a jump of 17’10 ¼”. The highlight relay of the night was the Shuttle Hurdle team (Kolby Nelsen, Colby Rich, Jacob Holste, Connor McKee), who placed 5th with a time of 1:05.71.

Cougars Sprint Their Way To 2nd

On Thursday, April 18th, the CAM Boys Track team ran at West Central Valley in Stuart. It was a cold and windy afternoon and throughout the night, but the boys showed determination. Again, the boys show promise in their field events as Jacob Holste won the High Jump with a jump of 5’10”. Deshawn Carr also won the Long Jump with a jump of 20’ 1 ½”. Mitchell Williamson won both the Shot Put and Discus in dominating fashion. Connor McKee won the 110 Highs and the 400 Lows. The solo winning relay was the Shuttle Hurdle team, (Kolby Nelson, Colby Rich, Jacob Holste, Connor McKee) winning with a time of 1:07.42. The Cougars are running their best heading into the postseason but make sure to catch them on Thursday April 25th at Van Meter.

Girls Track Going the Distance

On Tuesday, April 16th, the CAM Track teams hosted their home track meet that was held at the Atlantic High School. The girls track team came home with multiple individual/relay placings and as a team, they placed 3rd with 67 points. Molly Venteicher brought home a gold medal in Shot Put with a throw of 35’5”. She also placed 3rd in Discus, throwing 92’2”. Allison Spieker threw 91’ in Discus, putting herself in 4th. Isabel Kinzie got 4th place in Shot Put and Abby Follmann jumped into 4th in Long Jump (13’1”). Jade Jackson finished in 2nd place in the 100M Hurdles and Madison Holtz placed 2nd in the 800M Run, both contributing eight points. Jade Jackson also participated in High Jump (4’9”, 3rd) and the 400M Hurdles (4th). The 4x100M Relay team consisting of Zoey Baylor, Abby Follmann, Marissa Spieker, and Mallarie Peach ended in 4th place with a time of 59.91. Those runners also ran the 4x200M Relay and placed 1st with a time of 2:00, giving the team 10 points. The 4x800M Relay team finished 3rd with a time of 13:19 (Cadence Stephenson, RoAnn Perry, Taylor Bower, and Natalie Blaine).

On Thursday, April 18th, the team traveled to West Central Valley and went up against eight different teams. As a team, they finished in 3rd place with a total of 63 points. In Discus, Allison Spieker placed 2nd with a throw of 95’7” and Molly Venteicher placed 3rd, throwing 82’7”. In Shot Put, Molly Venteicher finished in 2nd (33’8”) and Isabel Kinzie in 4th (30’9”). Jade Jackson ended in 3rd in High Jump, with a jump of 4’10”. Madison Holtz completed the 800M Run in 2:55, placing 5th. The 4x200M Relay placed 3rd with a time of 2:04. The Shuttle Hurdle team, Allison Spieker, Jade Jackson, Abby Follmann, and Madison Holtz, ended in 3rd.

“CAM Cougar Classic”

On Tuesday, April 16th, the Cougars hosted their only home meet of the season. It was a gorgeous day for senior night as we recognized the seniors who are out for track. The meet started off with a bang as Mitchell Williamson threw a school record of 49’5”, placing 2nd. Jacob Holste placed 1st in the High Jump with 5’10”, while DeShawn Carr also placed 1st in the Long Jump (20’ 4 ½”), the 100 (11.49), and the 200 (23.67). Connor McKee won the 110 Highs and the 400 Lows. High placing relays were, the 4x100 (DeShawn Carr, Mitchell Williamson, Preston Murphy, Darien Burnison) who placed 2nd, the 3rd place 4x200 (Mitchell Williamson, Preston Murphy, Darien Burnison, Colby Rich), and the shuttle hurdle (Kolby Nelson, Colby Rich, Jacob Holste, Connor Mckee) who also placed 2nd. The Cougars finished 2nd of ten teams with a total of 120 points, 36 behind 1st place.

Girls Track Team Making Great Strides

On Tuesday, April 9th, the girls track team traveled to East Union (Afton) to compete against 12 other track teams. As a team, the Cougars placed 4th with 76 points total. The two first placers of the night where Allison Spieker, throwing 101’7” in Discus and Molly Venteicher in Shot Put with a throw of 36’2”. Jade Jackson placed third, after a coin toss, with a jump of 4’8”. Jackson also gained 4th place in the 100 Meter Hurdles and the 400 Meter Hurdles. The Sprint Medley team, Zoey Baylor, Mallorie Peach, Marissa Spieker, and Madison Holtz, was awarded 3rd place. The Shuttle Hurdle team, which consisted of Allison Spieker, Jade Jackson, Abby Follmann, and Madison Holtz, acquired 4th place.

Boys Track Sprints To Gold

On April 8th, the CAM Boys Track team competed in Lenox on a beautiful Monday afternoon. The Cougars left the competition in the dust, as they raced to 1st with a total of 207 points. In a dominant fashion, they were 106 points ahead of 2nd place, Bedford. The following people received first in their events; DeShawn Carr (100, 200, Long Jump), Connor McKee (110 Highs, 400 Lows), Ethan Follmann (1600, 3200), Mitchell Williamson (Shot Put, Discus) and Jacob Holste in the High Jump. The relays, who also received first, were the 4x200 (Mitchell Williamson, Lane Spieker, Darien Burnison, Colby Rich) and the Shuttle Hurdle Relay (Colby Rich, Jacob Holste, Kolby Nelson, Connor McKee).

Girls Excel In Field Events

On April 4th, the girls track team traveled to Van Meter to participate in an eight team track meet. The Cougars came home in 7th place. Two highlights of the night were Jade Jackson took first place in High Jump, clearing a height of 4’8”, and Molly Venteicher throwing 35’10” in Shot Put. Mallory Behnken took 3rd place in Shot Put with a throw of 33’11”. The Shuttle Hurdle team, which consisted of Allison Spieker, Jade Jackson, Abby Follmann, and Madison Holtz also took 3rd place. Finishing in 4th place was Allison Spieker (Discus), Abby Follmann (Long Jump), and the Distance Medley team including Allison Spieker, Cadence Stephenson, Madison Holtz, and Marissa Spieker.


Cougars Take Bronze In Competition

On Thursday, April 4th, the boys' track team traveled to Van Meter with a meet consisting of 2A and 3A teams. The Cougars placed 3rd out of 8 teams with 106 points, behind AC-GC and ADM. DeShawn Carr received 1st in the 100m dash and the long jump, along with Mitchell Williamson who won the Shot Put. Jacob Holste broke his personal record as he jumped his way to 2nd, with a jump of 6’0”. Also receiving 2nd was DeShawn Carr (200m), Connor McKee (110 Highs, 400 Lows), Mitchell Williamson (Discus). The Shuttle Hurdle team, consisting of Kolby Nelson, Colby Rich, Jacob Holste, and Connor McKee, was the standout relay as they received 2nd as well with a time of 1:05:00.

Runners Impress at Early Bird Meet

On Tuesday, March 26th, the Cougar track team had their very first meet of the season. The team placed fourth, only three points behind conference foe Woodbine, along with Treynor and Underwood. It was a very promising meet as the field events were the star of the show. DeShawn Carr won the long jump with a jump of 20’2 ½”. Mitchell Williamson won the shot put with a throw of 48’ 3” and placed 4th in the discus with a throw of 131’ 10”. Jacob Holste also received second in the high jump as he jumped 5’10”. Connor McKee also received a gold medal in the 110m High Hurdles as he ran a 16.15s. Star relays were the Shuttle Hurdle team and the 4x100m team. The shuttle hurdle team received 1st with a time of 1:06.02s and consisted of Colby RIch, Jacob Holste, Joe Kauffman, and Connor McKee. The 4x100m relay team received a silver with a time of 46.67s and consisted of Darien Burnison, Preston Murphy, Lane Spieker, and DeShawn Carr. This was also the school record for the 4x100m! Senior DeShawn Carr stated, “I was really excited to see the times we put up. It really shows what we can accomplish with hard work.”
