The vision mixer panel is able to send images to several places at once - more than just the studio output.
It can put images on a screen which is part of a programme’s set - often called an ‘In Vision Monitor’, or send visuals to a monitor in front of a gameshow contestant. Or perhaps send video to a projector covering a backdrop. Any source…. a camera, VT, Frame Memory etc…. can be used.
‘In-vision’ monitors behind a presenter.
What goes in the monitor is controlled by the Vision Mixer.
To do any of these things we use the Auxiliary (Aux) outputs of the vision mixer which are controlled by the smaller white buttons in the ‘Source’ and ‘Destination’ rows above the main coloured buttons. (There are ‘Source’ and ‘Destination’ rows on both banks of the mixer - Programme/Preview and ME1 - but they do the same things.)
Source and Destination rows on the Studio A Vision Mixer - two sets, one on each bank.
Choose the Auxiliary Output you want to use on the upper ‘Destination’ row…..e.g. AUX 1.
Then press a button on the lower ‘Source’ row to choose which source goes to the selected destination…..e.g. FM 3 (Frame Memory 3).
Now, whatever you do on the main Programme row of the mixer, FM 3 will now always be fed to AUX 1.
FM 3 being sent to Aux 1
Press Aux 1 on the upper Destination row - then FM 3 on the lower Source row.
We then use the studio’s video matrix to send AUX 1 to whichever part of the studio we want. For example, we can send it to a monitor connected to a video tieline on a studio wallbox.
Checking:
At any time you can check what is being sent to any Aux output by pressing the appropriate Destination button; the Source being sent to that Aux will light up. Aux 1 and Aux 2 also appear on the monitor stack, so you can see the results of your switching.
If you want to change the feed to an Aux output as part of your programme you can do so with a live cut on the ‘Source’ row of white buttons.
If you would like to change the feed to an In-vision Monitor with a mix or wipe, you can feed the output of the top bank of the mixer - ME1 - to your chosen Aux output, and mix/wipe between sources on the ME bank just as you would on the lower, Programme/Preview bank.
