The Sennheiser G4 is a robust analogue wireless transmitter / receiver system which connects to a Lavalier mic.
The packs look very similar but are identified as transmitter and receiver on the back
The transmitter has a mic line-in socket to plug in the lavalier mic and a mute button.
The receiver has an AF socket that you plug the XLR into the camera or recorder.
Both packs have the same controls. From left to right : ON/OFF button. UP/DOWN toggle and the SELECT/MENU button.
Giving the ON/OFF button a long squeeze turns the devices on and off. Just tapping the button will get you back to the home screen when in a menu. The UP/DOWN toggle switch will guide you through the menus, which are different for each device. The SET button brings up the menu, then chooses the option you want to go with.
Here is a clear video showing how to set up the devices.
When you have done a scan for the available frequencies, you should only choose one from Bank 1, which is Channel 38, which BSU has bought a licence for. Once a frequency is selected, then check it for interference through the headphones on the camera.
It mentions setting the sensitivity on the transmitter without details. Recommended settings are:
Sensitivity -21 on the transmitter
AF on the receiver at -12.
Go to 5.55 to in this more in depth video. see how to set these levels. You will still need to adjust your incoming levels on your camera or recorder afterwards as well.
For interviews and drama, the transmitter is small enough to go into a pocket. If there are no pockets available, possibly your actor is wearing tight clothing or a dress, you can use a body strap to affix the pack.
