When importing images into After Effects you may need to prepare the image file first so that it contains a transparent background (or remove an object from a background). These steps will show you how to prepare the file using Photoshop, before importing it into After Effects.
When importing images into After Effects you may need to prepare the image file first so that it contains a transparent background (or remove an object from a background). These steps will show you how to prepare the file using Photoshop, before importing it into After Effects.
- Open the image in Photoshop
- Use the Quick Selection tool to select the background, or the Lasso tool to draw around the outline of the tree
- Click Select & Mask
- Select Overlay view
- You want the background to be highlighted red - if it is not, click on Invert lower down the panel.
- Change Output to : New Layer & click OK
- Your image should now appear like this, with an additional layer for the cut out.
- When you save the Photoshop file, make sure Layers is ticked.
- And when you import it into After Effects, make sure to Import As: Composition - retain layer sizes
And Editable Layer Styles selected
It should now appear in After Effects without the background......
