Once the ship image has been placed in the composition, there is an obvious difference in colour/tones which needs to balanced to match the footage.
Open the Info panel to see the RGB values.
Move the mouse pointer over the shadows and highlights of the footage to see the different RGB values.
Notice the values if we select an area of the footage in the shadows compared to an area which should be darkest on the ship image.
Apply the Colour Correction Curves effect to the image layer.
Once you have the Curves effect in the Effect Controls panel, you can start moving the White/Black points on the graph to adjust the image colour to be a closer match to the footage
To reduce the amount of white and increase the black values, the curve will start to look like this:
Once happy with the colour correction, make a duplicate of the image, flip the image so that it becomes a shadow and add a Blur for a shadow effect.
