This page takes you through the basic workflow to get started with the RodecasterPro2 (which is located in Commons G48), including:
Set up in the room
Connection of hardware
Mic setup
SD Card formatting
Processing & effects
Please leave the room as you found it, with the set up of 4 pod mics, 4 headphones and the SD card formatted ready for the next person to use.
When you first enter G48, the RodecasterPro2 should be ready to use with a basic set up.
This includes the Rodecaster being plugged in (at the wall behind the screen), 4 x Rode pod mics attached via the desk arms, 4 x headphones and a USB cable attached at the back of the unit to plug in external devices.
The Rodecaster is switched on by pressing the Red button at the back of the unit
The MicroSD card should also be in the back of the Rodecaster (and remains in the room at all times). Please make sure to copy over your files/recordings before leaving the room).
Headphones:
Headphones are already set up and connected into the RodecasterPro2. There is a colour for each channel which matches the dial for headphone volume and a tag on each set of headphones.
e.g. channel 1 is coloured pink, which matches the headphone jack, headphones and volume dial.
Headphone volume levels can be adjusted for each channel using the dials on the front of the unit.
Setting up Mics:
All 4 mics are set up ready to use. The mics in the room are Rode Pod Mics and do not require phantom power. If for any reason you do need to change the mics, you need to go into the mic settings to select the correct type of mic you are using (and be aware if it requires phantom power). Please do not change the settings for the Pod Mics by changing the phantom power setting to on as this can damage the Rodecaster unit.
The mic level can be adjusted by turning the dial to the right of the panel or pressing the + - on the screen.
Format the SD Card
Make sure to format the SD card before you start recording in case the person using the kit before you has forgotten to delete their files.
Press the card icon on the display to take you to the settings, press Erase and confirm that you want to erase the card.
A card reader can be borrowed from the Asset store for transferring data. Alternatively, you can record directly into a laptop via USB direct into audio software e.g. Adobe Audition.
Channels/Faders
The first four channels are set up for the mics in the room, channel 5 fader is for any device connected via bluetooth and channel 6 fader is for the sound pads.
There are also three additional 'virtual' channels which are explained later.
Processing and Effects
You can press the coloured button above the channel fader, or press the channel on the display screen to access the individual channel settings.
Here you will find the settings for processing and effects. We initially recommend that you go into the processing Presets and select Podcast Studio. If you are more familiar with processing you can manually adjust the settings for Depth, Sparkle and Punch or the Advanced settings as necessary.
The Effects tab will give you manual control to adjust processing for Echo and Reverb.
