Pros
•“Film” like quality can be achieved in HD.
•Small, portable.
•Full manual controls available
•Some auto settings
Cons
•Focus can be tricky, manual controls need work
•Prone to camera shake if hand held
•LED view finder can be dark outside (Can use a viewfinder)
•Internal sound quality is Iffy so “dual” system is required for professional sound quality
Choose the right lens for the right shot
Prime lens - fixed focal length, 50mm prime lens is provided with an aperture as low as F1.8. This means it lets more light in than the zoom and will have a shallower depth of field. Lower aperture means shallower depth of field.
Zoom lens - varied focal length between 18mm to 55mm EF lens, F3.5 at 18mm up to F5.5 at 55mm
Beachtek Audio Recorder - The Canon 700D doesn't have any microphone preamps built into the camera, this means you cannot provide any condenser micorphones with 48V phantom power. The camera does have a built in microphone but this is attached to the camera is very open and not directional so if you want to record sound on the Rode NTG1 then you need to use the Beachtek Audio Recorder. To minimise vibrations reaching the microphone and creating unwanted sounds there is a Rode PG2 and to help reduce wind noise there is a Rode WS6.
