BSU Setup Guide
(for Rodecaster Pro1)
(for Rodecaster Pro1)
This page takes you through the basic workflow to get started with the RodecasterPro (which is located in Commons G50), including:
Set up in the room
Connection of hardware
Mic setup
SD Card formatting
Multi-track recording
Processing & effects
Soundbanks
Solo / Mute / Mix Minus / Record Pause
Please leave the room as you found it, with the basic set up of 2 pod mics connected and the SD card formatted ready for the next person to use.
When you first enter G50, the RodecasterPro1 should be ready to use with a basic set up.
This includes the Rodecaster being plugged in (at the wall behind the screen), 2 x Rode pod mics attached via the desk arms & a USB cable attached at the back of the unit to plug in external devices.
The Rodecaster is switched on by pressing the Red button at the back of the unit
The MicroSD card should also be in the back of the Rodecaster (and remains in the room at all times). Please make sure to copy over your files/recordings before leaving the room).
Headphones:
You will need to use your own headphones or borrow some from the Asset Store. Headphones plug into the back of the unit and there is also an additional connection at the front of Channel 1.
Headphone volume levels can be adjusted for each channel using the switches on the front of the unit. There is also a volume switch to adjust levels if you have speakers in the room attached.
Setting up Mics:
Two additional mics can be plugged in via XLR at the back of the unit into Channels 3 & 4 (please go to the Asset Store to booked out additional mics).
You need to be aware of what type of mic you have connected. The two which are permanently in the room are Rode Pod Mics & DO NOT require Phantom Power as this can damage the kit.
Phantom power off for all Channels:
Phantom power on for Channel 1 only (red dot next to mic icon):
You should make sure Phantom Power is switched off for all channels before plugging in any mics.
To do this go to : Settings > Channels > Channel 1/2/3 or 4 > Level > Phantom Power slider should be at the left.
You can also go straight to the individual Channel settings by pressing the coloured Channel number above the faders. This a quick way of comparing the settings across all channels for a specific setting.
Channel 1 and 2 should have the Microphone setting set to Rode PodMic. For any additional mics you will need adjust the Microphone setting to the type of mic you are using.
Format the SD Card
Make sure to format the SD card before you start recording in case the person using the kit before you has forgotten to delete their files.
Go to the SD Card settings by pressing the card icon at the top right of the screen.
Slide across the bar where prompted to format the card.
A card reader can be borrowed from the Asset store for transferring data. Alternatively, you can record directly into a laptop via USB direct into audio software e.g. Adobe Audition.
Multi-track Recordings
If you want to export your recording as a multi-track go to: Settings > Advanced > Audio > Multitrack > MicroSD Card = on
Processing and Effects
Before applying any processing effects (e.g. De-esser) turn to the Effects Edit Mode on so that you have full control of the effects and can adjust the individual settings
Go to: Settings > Advanced > Audio > Processing > Effects Edit Mode = on
For further details on each of the effects go to the Mic Processing page
Sound Banks
If editing sounds or inputting your own sounds into the Soundbank, please use the second or third banks so that we keep the first page as the defaults
available at all times. And please delete any sound files you have added once you finish recording.
The Soundbanks can be accessed via the Sounds icon at the top right of the display.
Press an empty square/pad to assign your sound/recording to.
Press Record to record directly from the mic and select how you would like the button to function (pause, replay, play etc).
For further details on how to set up sounds or transfer from a bluetooth or usb device, go to the Sound Pads page.
