Welcome S-STEM Scholars!

During the much anticipated Fall 2021 Welcome Week, we finally got to meet the S-STEM Scholars and their families. After the S-STEM Team (Dr. James Yeh, Dr. Bradley McCoy, Dr. Louise Huang, Dr. Christopher Newman) and the faculty mentors (Dr. Aisha Chen, Dr. Sharon McCathern), introduced themselves, the S-STEM Scholars got to get acquainted with each other and hear from our Interim Dean, Dr. Megan Prosser. This cohort of S-STEM Scholars majoring in Engineering, Computer Information System, Computer Science, Mathematics and Physics, is part of the National Science Foundation S-STEM Program, which funds the APU project, “STEM Excellence Learning (STEMEL) Community Scholars”. Apart from being scholarship recipients, S-STEM Scholars will be provided with peer and faculty mentoring, cohort learning, internship and research opportunities, as well as quarterly family gatherings throughout their undergraduate studies at APU. In addition, the S-STEM Scholars will participate in a research study on the impact of structured mentoring paired with financial assistance with Dr. Newman, the Educational Researcher of this project. We are excited to have these Scholars to be part of the Class of 2025 and wish them all God’s best as they embark on their undergraduate career at APU!
