I am in the Department of Biology & Chemistry and have been a faculty member at APU since August 2021.
I am currently teaching General Biology I, Neurobiology Lab and Regional Anatomy Lab.
My research area is using the Giant Madagascar Hissing Cockroach, Gromphadorhina portentosa, as a model organism for studying neurophysiology and much more. My research projects employ the Malagasy roach present undergraduate students with the opportunity to study the intricacies of anatomy and principles of physiology. There are several research projects for students to select from with opportunities to explore microbiology, toxicology, behavior, and/or biomechanics.
I was first intrigued by science in middle school. However, since that time, my love for the brain specifically was identified and refined during my undergraduate and graduate studies.
Since my arrival, I have really enjoyed my colleagues and department; everyone has been very welcoming.
I like to cook for my family. Especially during COVID, I have tried different recipes; you can see the empanadas, British minced pie and scones in the photos. Our family enjoys various good foods.
Aside from studying cockroaches, I am passionate about science and faith dialogues. I have spoken and taught classes on various science and faith topics at our former church in Maryland, and I look forward to more opportunities in the future.
