Dr. Mark Arvidson

Professor, Department of Mathematics, Physics, and Statistics

1. Can you tell us your home department and how long have you been a faculty member at APU?

I am in the Department of Math, Physics, and Statistics, and I have been here for 25 years.


2. What are the classes you teach?

I teach Applied Calculus, Math for Secondary Teachers, Math for Elementary Teachers and College Algebra.


3. What is your area of research/teaching and how did you get interested in this area?

My area of teaching and research is Math education. I just presented a paper in Shanghai this summer at the International Conference on Mathematics Education (ICME).


4. When and how did you get interested in studying Mathematics?

I got interested in studying Math because I had a great Calculus teacher in college.


5. What are some of the things you most enjoy being at APU?

I find the most enjoyable parts of APU are the students and the chance to share my faith in Christ.


6. What are some fun things you like to do?

I like to snow ski, ride my mountain bike, rock climb, scuba dive, water ski, hike, fly airplanes, anything outdoors!


7. Anything else you would like the STEM community to know about you?

My best vacation ever was hiking across the Swiss Alps from Fance to Austria with my youngest daughter, Hannah. It was 200 miles and lots of climbing.
