The Art of Seeing

Teaching students to be better observers. Three activities: 10 x 2, zooming in (looking closer), partner draw

10 x 2: teaching students to observe, not jump to interpretation. You have to know what you are looking at. The brain is wired to construct meaning, but it is doing so based on the information coming in--most heavily relies on visual. As an artist, if you want someone to take away meaning from your piece, you need to know what patterns create the meaning, know how to create that pattern, and then know how to use the media to help create that pattern.
