  • warm up: inspirational moodboard

    • 1) beautiful landscapes around the world

    • 2) strange landscapes from around the world

    • 3) architecture from around the world

      • upload all 3 to google classroom

  • pre-instruction: draw a face

    • use a reference photo

    • keep the expression on the reference neutral--no smiles or weird expressions

    • do your best work at this moment

    • draw on drawing paper and fill the paper (make the face large)

    • drawing must be of a realistic human, no cartooning or anime

    • take at least 20 - 30 minutes

  • if you finish, you may free draw

Did all three moodboards b/c I wasn't there. Would be better to do the two landscapes and put off the architecture

contour lines and noteability--do a few more to make it a habit, practice fungi, coral, etc and have them then draw on the watercolor paper

Maybe do some sponge painting with acrylic prior to this time so they can have something to practice the contour lines on and still have product? Also keep them from the habit of white paper

doing the 12 x 18 contour was great--but maybe do on cheap paper so they don't think it's their final? Or have them do it on the background color?

Drawing the properties is brilliant for them--went really really well and lowered the tension of having to be perfect. Still had to think about angles, observations, etc. made them look at the whole instead of just small parts

when doing the tree, maybe do all together the same one? this group was a little weird about this, but could just be the kids...

  • add coral to foreground of your landscape

    • large

    • overlaps other items

1st hour

    • the brain looks for patterns, so they can't go too far off of the basic characteristics. Find the properties and mess with one or two:

      • move something

      • change size

      • change color

    • properties plus a mash up--taking steps for creativity, adding things at attachment points, looking for similarities in two items and then making a switcheroo

    • the plants worked really well and kids got great ideas. They were slower and less great when they worked alone in the following days. might be better to make as we go with the lessons above

  • warm up: upload tree drawing

  • steps to be creative

    • patterns and properties

    • practice with tree, insect, fungus

3rd hour

  • warm up: draw tree from Friday
