Purpose: help students learn to be creative within the parameters given.

Requirements: name in font of choice, cover ⅓ of portfolio with assigned design

Challenge: students may reproduce work they see online, or try to apply the patterning in Pacific NW Native American Art to objects/animals that symbolize something in their own life.

Content:

    • Artistic Process: research, brainstorming, prototyping, drafting, executing, problem solving/trouble shooting.

    • Composition: create balance, and lead the viewer’s eye

    • Drawing: planning space within a piece; blocking out before adding detail; using points of reference, proportion, and measuring within a piece to build accuracy

    • Communication: symbolism in Art

    • Media skills with colored pencil and marker

Why Pacific Northwest Native American Art?

    • Connects to book read in 6th grade English class

    • Simplified patterning is easier for beginning drawing
