notes:

• use watercolor sheets combined with properties of plants to create abstract floral compositions with ink lines added

  • need to set up sample, challenge assignment w/pics as examples

• warm up: watercolor properties and color mixing

• pass out portfolios with sketch paper

• expectations for Art Class

• 10 x 2--guy with sandwich

• introduced 10 x 2 and ARt of Seeing

  • • Artists literally see more colors than other people b/c trained to break things down from the chunks

    • Visually strong and create meaning from what we see, artist needs to see the pieces instead of the chunks in order to render

      • use example to discuss "building a photo" and telling a story in the photo b/c of the visual clues built by the marketing

        • question? what might they be advertising with this photo?

        • great observations by the kids about what is in the photo and how the guy looks fake once they've had a chance to really look

      • discussion---try to prove that the guy is NOT eating a sandwich based on evidence in photo

• introduce using paper for overlap, how to cut, glue, leave partially glued so can add.

• use info gained in challenge to create individual pieces
