The Giver

Each 8th grade student will generate two projects that will be displayed at the Student Exhibition of Learning on November 15.

Project 1: photography project working with Mitch Conrad, done outside of class

  • take two photos, one of Beauty and one which shows the Opposite of Beauty

  • photos must both be black and white

  • photos must show knowledge of photography: lighting, rule of thirds, filling your frame with what you like, etc

  • first photos due Wed., Oct 31

  • final photo due Tuesday, Nov 6

Project 2: multimedia project done in class

  • subject is: Survival is Insufficient (not enough)

  • product can be two different projects, you must complete one

  • DUE DATE Thursday, Nov. 8 when you walk in the door

  • Option 1: Negative Space poem, illustrated

    • "the Community has no"

    • background

    • add drawings

    • neat lettering

    • words as part of the art

  • Option 2: Self portrait which includes that things that make life worth living for you

Format ideas in any combination:

  • drawing

  • painting

  • collage of words/images

  • cut paper

  • tracing of face and applying color

  • graphic novel

  • illustrated words

  • calligraphy

  • all white, texture only

  • using human figure as mannequin

  • remember things like, emotion, color, line, dimensions of the face, dimensions of people, things that make you thrive
