Spotlight on AVID
AVID Elementary Workshop at IM
Indian Mounds has been selected to host a regional AVID Elementary Workshop this spring! Teachers and administrators from AVID schools in states throughout the central region of the United States will be coming to Indian Mounds to engage in a hands-on, collaborative training opportunity on March 7, 2017. Any Bloomington AVID teacher is welcome to attend free of charge, but will need to apply for funds to cover substitute costs. More information and the registration process will be made available as soon as it is released from AVID Central!
VVE 5th Graders to Richardson Nature Center
Valley View Elementary 5th graders went to Richardson Nature Center to learn about animals, their adaptations, and their habitats, and to make real-world connections to what they are doing in social studies currently.
Valley View Elementary has launched their "Spotlight on AVID" feature on the Cheetah News each Thursday! Currently, they are selecting one staff member each week to talk about the college they attended. Check out the first episode!
VVM AVID Students go to Base Camp
One of the four pillars of the AVID College Readiness System is cultivating an environment that supports a culture of learning. Valley View Middle Schools students attend Base Camp at Fort Snelling each year a a way to develop collaboration and team-building skills.

#OBSERVEME at KHS
During the AVID Elective, students participate in inquiry-based tutorials where they work with a small group of peers and a tutor to structure higher-level thinking questions to guide one another through points of confusion identified in their daily content area classwork.
Are you interested in observing the AVID Tutorial process? Through #OBSERVEME, teachers voluntarily open their classrooms to be observed by other teachers in the hopes of getting feedback on an area they are working on in their classroom. #OBSERVEME is optional for teachers, but all AVID Elective teachers have agreed to open their classrooms on tutorial days to provide others with an opportunity to get out of the classroom and see what's going on in AVID!
