Spotlight on AVID
AVID By the Numbers
Recent KHS AVID Field Trips to
Ovative Ad Agency and Augsburg Gollege
VVM Goals Presentation
Each year, 8th grade AVID students work to develop short-, mid-, and long-range SMART goals. On May 6, students presented their goals and accomplishments to families, teachers, staff, and administration at Valley View Middle School’s 3rd Annual Goals Presentation.
FMSC Community Service Trip
One important component of AVID is giving back to the community. Each year, Kennedy High School participates in many service projects, including packing meals and raising money for Feed My Starving Children (FMSC), a non-profit organization committed to providing hungry children and adults hand-packed meals, specifically formulated for malnourished children all over the world. During KHS’s most recent trip to FMSC, AVID students packed 22,464 meals which is enough to feed 62 children for one year.
VVM AVID Game Afternoon
KHS to VVE for Service Project
Kennedy AVID Seniors went to Valley View Elementary recently to help assemble the school-wide Cheetah Binders. All students at VVE use this binder as an organizational tool and communication tool between school and home. Over two hours, the seniors filled nearly 600 binders with grade-specific information, materials, and resources!
One of the four pillars of AVID is “Culture.” Ask any AVID student, and s/he will tell you that the AVID elective students, teachers, and tutors are like a family. In order to foster that supportive family environment and culture, successful AVID programs host opportunities for students to gather, socialize, and have fun together! Valley View Middle School recently hosted just such an afternoon for AVID students to enjoy treats, games, and get to know one another even better.
KHS AVID Celebration
AVID students were recognized at Kennedy's end-of-the-year AVID Celebration on Wednesday, May 25. Congratulations to our first class of graduating seniors and to all AVID students in the district for their hard work and individual determination!
