In this month's AVID Newsletter you'll find information about AVID at Valley View Elementary, the AVID Elective Tutorial, a strategy for students to use when responding to text through writing and illustration called a "One-Pager", and upcoming AVID events including opportunities for all teachers to attend AVID-related breakout sessions at Kennedy High School's winter and spring workshop days.
Spotlight on AVID Students
AVID Elementary Students at Valley View Elementary
All 5th grade students at Valley View Elementary School participate in AVID's Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization and Reading (WICOR) Strategies. At left, students are engaged in reading and answering higher-level thinking questions at Costa's Levels 2 & 3. In the center, students are engaged in collaboration as they read one anothers writing and work together on content revisions. At right, students use their AVID binders to organize and review their 2-column notes for a research project.

AVID Regional Path Training
This web meeting allows coordinators and teachers a wide variety of dates and times to choose from to best fits their schedule.
This 2-day training is intended Superintendents, Assistant Superintendents, Curriculum Directors, Elementary and Secondary Principals, Counselors and Teacher Leaders. Participants will engage in a five-step process to systematically evaluate program and instructional effectiveness which will then enable leaders to make changes to school culture using data. Moreover, participants will learn the various types of education data including qualitative and quantitative, recognize program strengths and challenges using AVID data reports and identify data sources outside of AVID Center.
