Spotlight on AVID
Exciting News for Bloomington!
Bloomington Public Schools has been selected by AVID to host not one, but two regional AVID events!
This spring, Valley View Middle School has been selected to host AVID elective teachers from around the region for a day-long workshop.
Valley View Elementary has been selected as an AVID Elementary Showcase School! This means VVE will host a variety of teachers and administrators from around the midwest who are interested in implementing AVID and those who currently have AVID and want to see implementation in Bloomington.
OGMS 8th Grade Recruitment
VVE Students Collaborate!
Fifth grade students at Valley View Elementary recently participated in an AVID-related activity during social studies. They collaborated with one another, using articles to fill in information on a variety of taxes imposed by the British before the American Revolution.
Cheryl Martin, Kennedy High School’s AVID Site Coordinator and Elective Teacher, and Kelly Killorn-Moravec, Bloomington Public Schools’ K-12 AVID Coordinator shared information about AVID with incoming freshmen who are potential AVID candidates at Oak Grove Middle School. A panel of current Kennedy seniors also shared their successes with AVID over the course of their high school experience.
KHS AVID Fun Before Winter Break!
Kristin Donnelly engaged in “fireside chats” with AVID students.
KHS AVID Book Fair
AVID tutors Brian, Stephen, Kari, and Abbey celebrated the end of fall over a game of “Clue” during lunch.
The AVID students at Kennedy High School helped distribute children's books to Kennedy students to give to their younger family members. The mission of this project is to get children's books into homes in the Bloomington community. AVID students know that reading to young children is a significant predictor of future academic success.
