Spotlight on Bloomington AVID
Congratulations to VVM and KHS!
One Pagers at VVE
Fourth graders at Valley View Elementary have been working on creating One Pagers! A One Pager is a strategy for responding to a text through writing and illustration.
Valley View Middle and Kennedy High Schools were recently notified that they have reached the Highly Certified level in AVID’s system. This means that these schools consistently meet AVID’s certification standards, have at least 6 of the 11 Essentials rated at "Routine Use" (Level 2) and/or "Institutionalization" (Level 3), have been certified for at least two consecutive years, and have been implementing AVID for a minimum of 4 years.
VVM 8th Graders Visit KHS
Eighth grade AVID students at Valley View Middle School have been corresponding with a high school buddy via email regularly since last fall. Recently, the pairs had a chance to meet at Kennedy High School! The students attended a class together, heard from a panel of AVID student leaders, and ate lunch together.

WICOR Strategy of the Month
RAMPS
The RAMPS strategy provides students with an opportunity to express what they know and understand about a topic in a creative way through writing.
EXAMPLE from Social Studies: A young, cold, starving, frightened, homesick drummer boy at Valley Forge during the winter when Washington and his troops quartered there (ROLE) writing a letter (MODE) to his parents (AUDIENCE), describing what he has experienced and asking them to find a way to get him out of the war and back home (PURPOSE and SITUATION).
This strategy (and others) can be found in the Writing with Integrated Reading and Oral Language

They can each be used on their own for a short professional learning opportunity, or they can be assembled together to create a full day or multi-day professional learning event. The goal of these modules is to support AVID program staff and District Directors in implementing the AVID College Readiness System with fidelity and depth.
