A story of Local Response by 'Author not known at present'.
Three years ago a group of female sex workers wanted to establish their own co-operative bank in Bangalore city. And they came to know that the bank would be registered under the co-operative registration act.
The key promoters of the group approached local officials for this purpose but all efforts went in vain. Finally, they got an appointment with the joint director for a meeting. He conducted the meeting with a group of women for half an hour without the presence of any external facilitation. Finally he was convinced and granted permission. Not only that, but he also asked his subordinates to give full support to the application.
So, now what went well in the closed-door discussion? The women narrated their real-life stories and they asked for his support in the socio-economic development of the community. So women are more powerful when the situation reaches a crisis point. It is a question of do or die.
