A story of Local Response by P. Chitra of Siaap
I am working in rural youth project. We provide RTI, STI and HIV related education and counselling and also run events among rural youth. Young people were hesitant and were not willing to talk openly about sexuality issues when we began our programme three years ago. But now they talk openly about sexual issues. And if they find any RTI and STI related symptoms, they go to the nearby government hospital to take treatment.
In addition, many adolescent girls did not go to get a job after they had completed their education at school. They thought that they could not get a job with their education level. But now they have received training in employable skills and some girls have found jobs nearby. Self-employed people employ them. Courses in tailoring, computes and beauty are free. Many girls have completed the courses in computer and tailoring skills. That girls say that the training and the employment have increased their levels of self-confidence and motivation.
Learning
When you give people the opportunities, they will develop themselves.
